Message from the
Principal
Dear Capitol Hill Families,
Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year. Capitol Hill School is an
outstanding learning environment with an emphasis on strong
curriculum and enrichment opportunities for all students. We
value our diverse school community and active parent
involvement. We are looking forward to another exciting and
engaging school year ahead.
Academic Program: In addition to first through
fifth grades, we offer both full and half day kindergarten
classes. All students participate in PE, music and library. We
also offer computer skill instruction and have a school wide
focus on the arts through classroom instruction and Artists in
Residence programs. Capitol Hill’s art focus culminates
in our annual “First Thursday” gallery walk in
April. We hope to see you there!
Our entire curriculum is aligned to state and district
standards and benchmarks. Literacy and math instruction is
designed to support students at every ability level. We focus
on writing skill development recognizing that becoming a good
writer is a critical life skill. All Capitol Hill teachers are
designated as “highly qualified” and are a
community of life-long learners dedicated to providing best
practice in instruction. All staff participate in district-led
professional development to continually strengthen and expand
their skills.
Parent Involvement: We encourage you to become
involved in whatever way works best for your family. Parents
can help out in the classroom, volunteer at school-wide events,
or work behind the scenes. Plan to attend monthly PTA meetings
to learn more about your child’s school. Watch for the
weekly “Friday Flyer” newsletter with announcements
and updates of events. Add your name to our email group list so
you can be notified online of Capitol Hill news and
information. Our school office is open Monday – Friday
from 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM. Our school secretary, Heidi
Reichelt, is happy to help you.
After School Programs: Capitol Hill School is
unique in its offering of outstanding after school programs.
ExAcademy, our after school daycare, is open from 2:15 –
6:00 PM daily (except school holidays and teacher in-service
days.) Experienced staff offer child care in small grade-level
groups with homework support, arts and crafts activities and
playtime. ExAcademy is open to all Capitol Hill families on a
daily, weekly or monthly basis at a cost commensurate to other
daycare providers. The Community Learning Center (CLC) program
is distinctive in the number and quality of after school
activities can enrich your child’s school day experience.
Classes are offered throughout the year at a minimal cost. Some
scholarships are available upon request for families in need.

Capitol Hill School is a strong and vibrant learning community.
We are continually seeking opportunities to actively engage
students, parents and community members in the educational
process and to share our love of learning. We focus on building
the personal strengths of all learners with challenging and
rigorous academic curriculum, best practices in instruction and
support for the “whole” child through a
comprehensive educational program. Together we can accomplish
the best for all students by working in partnership with
